Hi, I’m Jeffrey Swindle. I am a College Fellow & Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University. Beginning in summer 2025, I will be an Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law & Society and Sociology (courtesy) at the University of California, Irvine. You can reach me at: jswindle@g.harvard.edu or jswindle@uci.edu

My research covers the global diffusion of ideas and the influence of ideas on people’s behavior. I focus on both liberal and illiberal ideas about violence, migration, and gender. My article, “Pathways of Global Cultural Diffusion: Mass Media and People's Moral Declarations about Men's Violence against Women,” received multiple paper awards and was published in American Sociological Review. Most recently, I wrote in the Boston Globe and ReVista about the emerging relationship between the governments of United States and El Salvador. My collaborative work appears in Social Forces, International Migration Review, Demography, and other journals. I teach courses on quantitative and qualitative methods, global inequalities, and gender & sexuality.
