Hi, I’m Jeffrey Swindle. I am an Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law & Society and Sociology (courtesy) at the University of California, Irvine, where I enjoy teaching courses on quantitative and qualitative methods, global inequalities, and gender & sexuality. My research covers the global diffusion of ideas and the influence of ideas on people’s behavior. I focus on both liberal and illiberal ideas, and how people use these ideas in specific contexts, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Malawi, Nepal, and the United States. At present, I am writing and thinking about the relationship between violence and migration under illiberalism (SocArXiv; ReVista). Previously, my article on “Pathways of Global Cultural Diffusion: Mass Media and People's Moral Declarations about Men's Violence against Women” was published in American Sociological Review. Other collaborative work appears in Social Forces, International Migration Review, Demography, and other journals.
